Jeff Brooker

HM Revenue & Customs

Jeff BrookerJeff Brooker began his career as engineering apprentice at GKN, studying mechanical engineering.

In 1987 Jeff joined British Airways engineering department and for the next 10 years Jeff worked his way up the management and business structure, during this time Jeff worked closely with other global airlines and spent 2 years based in Washington working with USAir.

In 1998 he was appointed as head of IT business resources, a role that included the management of IT product strategy, the control of the global IT infrastructure and major outsourced contracts.

At the beginning of 2000 Jeff was asked to take up a global role leading information security across British Airways. Jeff developed and managed the information security strategy to ensure the operational demands of business were achieved – his skills in business integration were instrumental during the next 6 years as the airline went through a period of significant change. This included the transfer of the airline reservation systems to a third party, a step change in ‘on line’ systems and the compliance with the specific challenges of Sarbanes / Oxley.

In 2006 Jeff decided to take up a new challenge and joined PwC to lead their information security and business continuity practice. He has spend the last 3 years developing the PwC security practice and helping major clients across all markets assess and improve their position on information risk management; this included being the subject matter expert for the ‘Poynter review’.

Recently the opportunity to take on the role of Head of Security at a £450bn business with responsibility for 900 buildings, 100 staff and a massive security change programme was just too tempting and in April 2009 Jeff decided to join HM Revenue & Customs to take on this role.

Living in Berkshire the daily commute is a specific highlight of the day and when he gets a chance, spending time with his wife and four sons is definitely a priority.
